Day Two: Sunday, April 5, 2009- Part Two

Day Two: Sunday, April 5, 2009- Part Two

I shot this brief video during the "illustrated sermon." Yes it is a live horse in the sanctuary. The sermon told the story of the passion week through drama and commentary by the pastor. The most moving part was watching Jesus being whipped and as he passed by carrying the cross you could see the blood on His back. They actually hoisted Him up on the cross. That part was quite moving.

We had to leave church right at 11:30 so we could get to the place they had us go for lunch. This was Lisa's idea, not ours. :). The place was called Mazzio's and it was an all-you-can-eat pizza buffet. Fortunately the pastor closed right at 11:30 so we left right when the sermon finished.

Casey (Miles) loves his salad.
I do not remember if I have shared this yet, but we had heard that there was going to be another church group here with us. Believe it or not that church group turned out to be the youth group from ARCADE WESLEYAN! Yes that Arcade Wesleyan. God works in amazing ways. They had planned to go to Mexico, but when all those trips started being cancelled they decided to come here. There were not even any connections that Stuart knew about. it turns out one of the students goes to Del Campo. She may even do yearbook next year.

After lunch we went back to the church and then toured two houses that we may be working at this week. The first one was close by and it was an example of house that had very poor work done on it by an unscrupulous contractor. Apparently the homeowner was charged $16,000 and the work was very sub standard. We then went to Bridge City and a house they called the "alligator house." There were no alligators there, but there was water under the subflooring in the kitchen.

The gator house.
We then headed toward Galveston down the Bolivar Penninsula to take a look at some of the flood damage there. We had planned to go all the way to Galveston island via the ferry, but we found that the round trip could take up to three hours so we decided just to stop nearby and let the kids dip their feet into the Gulf of Mexico.

We drove to get as close as we could and found this amazing house on pilings that had almost been totally destroyed by the home surge. Supposedly the surge was over 20 feet high.

The leaders in love!

We drove over to Winnie to Al-T's Cajun food for dinner and met Gary and Peggy there. By the time we all got there the reservation was for 43.

Al-T's Cajun Food for dinner on Sunday night

Fried gator!

Casey and I shared the Al-T special. Red beans and rice, etofea, shrimp gumbo, fried catfish stufffed crab and some other stuff I can't even remember.

We all headed back to the church and hung out playing games until a little after 10. Stuart has us divided into teams and we will be going to three job sites.

May God bless and multiply our work.
